Get involved at the first OLPC Australia TechFest!

The first OLPC Australia TechFest will be held on June 1st in Sydney. It will include demonstrations, workshops about the OLPC hardware and software, developer tutorials and more! Please click through for the full agenda. Everyone is welcome, though the event is mainly designed to help potential technical contributors get involved.

The TechFest will be led by Pia Waugh (OLPC Australia), Joel Stanley (OLPCXO” laptop guru) and Martin Langhoff (OLPCXS” server project lead). Thanks very much to Joel and Martin for providing their insights into the project and volunteering their time for us!

To help many potential contributors across the country participate, we hope to provide a live video and audio stream from the venue, and will discuss activity throughout the day on IRC (#olpc-au on irc.freenode.net). Plus, video and audio recordings of the talks will be released after the event.

For those going by PT - I think the transport details at that link are for school days only - those buses don’t run on the weekends. Check 131500.info - there are less direct buses that set down about 1km away.

The techfest was great. I attended, learned a lot and met some very interesting and passionate people. I’ve blogged about it here:

I missed the first get together at Riverview … I’m totally disappointed about that, although I would not have been able to contribute to the technical aspects of the day … I have an XO and am keen to meet and talk with others who are involved in Australia … love to know when the next meeting/day/etc is … I’m not a developer … but have watched this project for the last couple of years and can see the the advantages for kids … particularly in Aboriginal communities.
